Map My Route

MapCalc’s Map My Route is a fast, free online route planner designed to help you map a route, measure path distances, and estimate travel times directly in your web browser. Whether you need a driving route planner for a weekend road trip, a walking route map for a city stroll, or a reliable tool to map my running route, our interactive route map provides road-following precision without requiring user registration or app downloads.

Simply place your starting point and destinations on the map. The routing engine snaps to actual roadway and trail networks, computing accurate travel distances and realistic journey times. If you only need straight-line point-to-point measurements across open terrain, you can also explore our Map Distance Calculator.

How to Plan a Route

Planning your itinerary with our route map generator takes only a few clicks:

  1. Search for a location or move the map: Use the search bar to locate your city, landmark, or street address, or navigate the interactive map manually.
  2. Add the starting point: Click anywhere on the map or select a search result to establish Stop 1 (Start).
  3. Add additional stops: Click further destinations along your journey to add up to 20 waypoints.
  4. Select driving, cycling, or walking: Choose your travel profile based on whether you are in a vehicle, on a bicycle, or travelling on foot.
  5. Calculate the route: Click Calculate Route to generate the turn-by-turn road geometry.
  6. Review distance and estimated time: Inspect the total distance in kilometers and miles, estimated travel duration, and individual leg breakdowns.
  7. Share or download the route: Copy a permanent share link or export your path as a standard GPX file.

Driving Route Planner

When you select the driving route planner mode, MapCalc calculates routes suitable for passenger cars, motorcycles, and commercial delivery vehicles. The routing engine follows primary highways, arterial thoroughfares, and secondary roads while respecting traffic rules such as one-way avenues and vehicular turn prohibitions.

Use the driving route map to preview multi-stop driving itineraries, avoid unexpected dead-ends, and determine driving distance before you hit the road.

Walking Route Planner

Our walking route planner focuses on pedestrian accessibility. It routes through sidewalks, marked pedestrian crossings, public footpaths, parks, and walking alleys that motor vehicles cannot access.

Whether you are planning a sightseeing walking tour, wandering through historic town centers, or mapping your daily commute on foot, the walking route map delivers safe, pedestrian-first routes.

Cycling Route Planner

The cycling route planner is optimized for bicycle travel. It prioritizes designated bike lanes, paved cycle tracks, quiet residential streets, and multi-use greenway trails while avoiding hazardous high-speed highways and freeways where bicycles are prohibited.

Before you embark on a weekend bike ride or daily commute, generate a cycling route map to check elevation-friendly road paths and accurate bicycle travel durations.

Running Route Planner

Looking to map my running route for morning workouts or race training? You can use MapCalc as a dedicated running route planner by choosing the Walking/Running profile.

Plot out exact 5K, 10K, or half-marathon distances along neighborhood blocks, park trails, and waterfront boardwalks. The running route map ensures your path follows real running surfaces and gives you precise mile-by-mile distance tracking.

Measure Route Distance

When evaluating travel corridors, understanding the distinction between straight-line distance and road distance is critical:

  • Straight-Line Distance (As-The-Crow-Flies): The direct geodesic distance across the Earth’s curved surface between two coordinates, ignoring all terrain, buildings, and streets. You can compute this with our measure straight-line distance tool.
  • Road-Following Route Distance: The actual navigable distance along roads, streets, bridges, and paths. This accounts for street bends, roundabouts, and traffic regulations.

Our built-in route distance calculator measures both metric (kilometers) and imperial (miles) values. Need to calculate boundary acreage or polygon area around your route? Use our Map Area Calculator or Acreage Calculator.

Plan a Route with Multiple Stops

Real-world journeys frequently involve errands, deliveries, and scenic detours. MapCalc functions as a comprehensive multiple stop route planner:

  • Up to 20 stops: Add intermediate waypoints anywhere along your route to plan complex journeys.
  • Draggable markers: Drag any numbered pin on the map to fine-tune its position in real time.
  • Individual stop removal: Click any pin or list entry to delete specific stops without restarting your route from scratch.
  • Leg-by-leg breakdown: Inspect distance and time for each individual segment between consecutive stops.

If you need to verify exact GPS coordinates for any stop, use our Latitude Longitude Finder or convert coordinate formats with our Coordinate Converter.

Share and Download Your Route

Once you create a route on a map, MapCalc gives you two privacy-focused sharing and export options:

  • Shareable Route Link: Click Share Route to copy a compact, URL-encoded link. When opened, the link restores your exact waypoints, travel profile, and map view instantly. No database or account registration is involved.
  • Export GPX File: Click Download GPX to export a standard GPX 1.1 file containing route coordinates and track points. GPX files are compatible with Garmin GPS devices, Wahoo bike computers, Apple Fitness, Strava, Komoot, and handheld GPS units.

All route calculations and file exports are performed without tracking your location or storing your personal coordinates on external databases.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I map a route?▼
Click anywhere on the interactive map to place your starting point and subsequent stops. You can also search for cities, addresses, or landmarks in the search bar. Once you have placed two or more stops, select your travel mode (driving, cycling, or walking) and click 'Calculate Route' to generate the road-following path.
Can I plan a driving route?▼
Yes. Selecting the Driving mode calculates a car-friendly path following highway networks, arterial thoroughfares, and local roadways, while honoring one-way streets and driving restrictions.
Can I plan a walking route?▼
Yes. The Walking mode calculates pedestrian-friendly paths utilizing sidewalks, crosswalks, park trails, and pedestrian paths, avoiding highways and automobile-only roads.
Can I plan a cycling route?▼
Yes. Cycling mode identifies bike-friendly roads, dedicated cycle paths, and low-traffic residential streets while steering clear of expressways and restricted motorways.
Can I map a running route?▼
Yes. Runners can select the Walking/Running mode to map out neighborhood jogs, 5K or 10K courses, and marathon training routes along sidewalks and multi-use greenways.
